The aliens are directed to the base's \"peace shield\", with Shanker revealing the blubonium, and Gary unintentionally provoking Scorch into stealing and breaking it. Shanker places Scorch into a freezing chamber and orders Gary to fix the blubonium for his brother's release, revealing that he plans to destroy all alien planets with life on them, stemming from an incident which a trio of grey aliens' spaceship (accidentally) killed his father back in 1947. Gary fixes the ray with help from his new friends, but Shanker goes back on his deal and freezes him as well. The other aliens discover Shanker's true intentions when he attempts to destroy Baab with the laser, but it is revealed that Gary rigged the machine to malfunction, destroying itself, and causing Gary, Scorch, and the other imprisoned Aliens to be released from their icy prisons. The brothers and their new friends escape Area 51 and head for Baab after locating Scorch's spaceship.
Carpenter and Russell had plans to continue the escapade in a film called Escape from Earth. A third film would be set in a world without electrical power but with plenty of narrative electricity. The planet would be a warzone. The project had all the makings of the conclusion of an epic sci-fi trilogy.
A cannon ball is shot vertically upwards with speed v. How fast would the ball need to go such that it would never fall back to EarthHow fast would you need to fire the cannon ball to escape from the moon, Jupiter or the surface of the sun Before you try these parts of the calculation, do you think that these escape velocities will be lower or higher than that of Earth in each case To get a feel for the relative sizes, you can look at this scale picture*.
Suppose that I go to planet Tiny, which is the same mass as Earth but a lot smaller. I fire a cannon ball again at 50% of the speed of light. How small would planet Tiny need to be so that the cannon ball cannot escape to infinitySupposing now that I go to planet Heavy, which is the same size as Earth but a lot more dense, and fire my cannon ball up at 50% of the speed of light. How many times more dense than Earth would planet Heavy need to be so that the cannon ball cannot escape its gravityCompare these results to trying to escape from a typical Neutron star which would weigh around twice the mass of the sun and have a radius of only 10km (this is around the same density as trying to squeeze the entire earth into a ball of 100m radius).

Come see \"Escape from Planet Earth\" an animated family comedy about an admired astronaut Scorch Supernova and his brother Gary who is called upon to save Scorch, his planet, his beloved wife Kira and their adventure hungry son Kip.
The Escape from Planet Earth voice cast includes Rob Corddry (Warm Bodies) as Gary Supernova, a resident of the distant planet Baab who works for the organization BASA, which specializes in rescue missions, and is the brains behind his brother Scorch (Brendan Fraser), a dim-witted hunk admired as a lone hero by the blue-skinned public. When Scorch is captured on a notoriously dangerous world known as \"The Dark Planet\" (spoiler: it's Earth), his scrawny nerdy sibling must step up and save the day.
He is the tyrannical head of Area 51 who is bent on eradicating all intelligent life from the galaxy. He is in an alliance with Lena Thackleman, an extraterrestrial whom he has tricked into sending him Blubonium, which can power his weapons to destroy every alien planet in the Solar System.
Shanker sends a decoy distress signal from Earth and it's received by Planet Baab and so they send their hometown hero Scorch Supernova. When Scorch lands on the planet with a camera, the first thing he sees is a 7-Eleven and lays eyes on a balloon-man and this serves as a distraction. Shanker's men ambush the alien and although he is able to fight them off, Scorch is quickly surrounded and Shanker is able to hit him from behind with a dart gun. Shanker holds the unconscious alien close to him and tauntingly says \"welcome to Earth.\" The soldiers then drag Scorch's body to an ice cream truck before Shanker destroys the camera, severing all connections between the Dark Planet and Baab.
On GoBotron, the recently captured Cy-Kill plots his escape almost immediately. He shows the other Renegades how they can change into Earth vehicles to fool both the GoBot Security Forces while they make their escape, and the people of Earth once they arrive there; for Cy-Kill's plan is to conquer a whole new world. Leader-1 is made aware of Cy-Kill's escape and informs the rest of the GoBot Security Force. For some reason he announces it from the Command Center's elevator. Turbo, Dozer, Hans-Cuff, Dumper and Pumper heeded his call.
On the planet Baab, dashing astronaut Scorch Supernova (Brendan Fraser) is a national hero and master of daring rescues. However, Scorch does not work alone; his nerdy brother, Gary (Rob Corddry), head of mission control at BASA, often lends quiet, behind-the-scenes support. When a distress signal arrives from a dangerous planet, Scorch ignores Gary's warnings and sets out on a rescue mission. Scorch soon finds himself caught in a trap set by an evil enemy, and it's up to Gary to save him.

A master of daring rescues, Scorch pulls off astonishing feats with the quiet aid of his nerdy, by-the-rules brother, Gary, head of mission control at BASA. When BASA's no-nonsense chief Lena informs the brothers of an SOS from a notoriously dangerous planet, Scorch rejects Gary's warnings and bounds off for yet another exciting mission. But when Scorch finds himself caught in a fiendish trap set by the evil Shanker it's up to scrawny, risk-adverse Gary to do the real rescuing. As the interplanetary stakes rise to new heights, Gary is left to save his brother, his planet, his beloved wife Kira, and their adventure hungry son Kip.
Eventually, Scorch arrives on Earth, lands in the desert and finds a 7-Eleven convenience store but mistakes an airdancer for a dying being. He is then ambushed by the Area 51 soldiers, and the space pilot prepares for a battle. After holding his ground for a while, Scorch is tranquilized and captured by General Shanker Saunderson, a cruel and malevolent general of the US Army, and is taken to \"Area 51\" where aliens from other planets are held.
Gary rigged the machine to malfunction, destroying itself before it can destroy Baab, thus releasing himself, Scorch and other aliens that were frozen in their containers. With the Supernova brothers released from their icy prisons by the machine alongside the other frozen aliens, they team up with Doc, Thurman and Io escape Area 51. With help from Hawk and Hammer, Gary and company locate Scorch's spaceship in a trailer park, and they begin to take off from Earth.
